Although Jesus walked among us as man, He was much more than a man. He was God in human flesh! God is a Trinity. Jesus Christ is one Person of that trinity.

His birth was miraculous. His mother was a virgin (Matt. 1:24, 25). Joseph was known as Jesus’ earthly father, but Mary’s conception was by the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:35), not Joseph. Thus Jesus did not inherit the sin nature that dominates every other person that enters the world. His origin was from heaven.

He performed many miracles, deeds that are humanly impossible. In fact, they were done to verify that He was indeed the Messiah (Anointed One of God). These included healing the sick (Luke 4:40), raising the dead (Luke 7:12-15), feeding thousands from one simple lunch (Matt. 14:15-21), casting out demons (Luke 4:41), and ruling over nature (Luke 8:23, 24).

He forgave sins (Luke 7:48). No one has authority to forgive sins but God alone.

He shares the same attributes as God the Father. He is truth (John 14:6), life (John 14:6), and light (John 8:12). He was the agent of creation (John 1:3). Note what He says about Himself. “He that has seen Me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). “I and the Father are One” (John 10:30).

C. S. Lewis said it well: “A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic – or else he would be the Devil of hell. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse.”

After living on earth 33 years, He was crucified by unbelievers (John 19:16-18). He was confirmed dead and entombed. But on the third day after His death He arose (Mark 16:6)1! He was seen alive by many people over a 40 day period. Then His followers watched as He returned to heaven (Acts 1:9) where He now sits at the right hand of the Father (Mark 16:19).

He has promised that He will return to take His followers to heaven to be with Himself (John 14:2, 3). He will also return to put an end to Satan’s reign on earth, and to create a new heaven and a new earth (Rev. 21:1).
