America, let’s take a warning from history.
A simple farmer delivered a message to Israel over 2700 years ago
warning them of destruction if they didn’t return to God.
Amos 3:6 says, “When disaster comes to a city has not the Lord
caused it?” We credit Mother Nature when in reality it is God
Almighty trying to get our attention. Amos chapter 4 reports five
calamities God sent on Israel: I gave you empty stomachs, I withheld
rain, I struck your gardens with blight and locusts, I sent plagues, I
overthrew some of you. After each calamity the sad result is given,
“Yet you have not returned to Me.” The conclusion is given in verse
12, “therefore, prepare to meet your God.”
Soon afterward the country was plundered and the people taken
captive.
If God did not spare these people who are we to think we can
escape His judgment when we
have turned away from God who has so generously blessed us in
the past?
Some would reject this warning saying it was for another country in
another time, but the apostle
Paul tells us this “was written for our instruction, and our example.”
Wake up, America, turn to God and repent!
